Who was Taguchi Tomoki?

Taguchi Tomoki was a Japanese woodblock print artist working in the late Edo period. His designs are known for bold, simplified lines and flat, static color, which is why they read as strikingly modern today despite dating from the 1800s. Much of his best-known imagery comes from a Japanese art book of woodblock designs published in 1860, and those compositions are widely reproduced as decorative wall art.

How do you style Taguchi Tomoki canvas prints at home?

These designs sit naturally in Japandi, Scandinavian and modern minimalist rooms, since the soft palettes and bold outlines calm a space rather than compete with it. Keep the surrounding wall uncluttered, pair with pale wood, linen and stoneware, and let one larger canvas anchor a sofa or bed. Because the plates share a visual language, two or three hung as a set in a hallway or above a console also works beautifully.
