Questions about calligraphy prints

What are the four main types of calligraphy?

Calligraphy is usually grouped into a few broad traditions: Western (Latin-alphabet) lettering, Arabic or Islamic calligraphy, Chinese calligraphy and Japanese calligraphy. Within Western lettering you'll also see modern brush and pointed-pen styles that feel loose and contemporary. Knowing which tradition you're drawn to makes shopping simpler, because each has a distinctive rhythm, stroke weight and mood on a wall.

What is Japanese calligraphy art called?

Japanese calligraphy is known as shodo, literally "the way of writing," made with brush and ink. Prints in this tradition often show a single bold character or short phrase, so the appeal is as much about the gesture of the brushstroke as the meaning of the word. Their high-contrast black-on-light look suits minimal, Japandi and monochrome interiors particularly well.

How do I style calligraphy prints at home?

Calligraphy is essentially graphic art, so give it breathing room: one larger piece above a sofa, console or bed usually beats a crowded arrangement. Black-and-white script sharpens pale, neutral or wood-toned rooms, while gold or sepia lettering warms darker walls. For a gallery wall, keep the script style consistent and vary only the sizes. Both framed and unframed print formats work, and every framed option arrives ready to hang.
