Hand-colouring is why nineteenth-century plate books still look alive: colour brushed on by hand, copy by copy, so no two were quite the same. What is a hand-coloured lithograph?

A hand-coloured lithograph is a lithographic print whose colour was applied by hand after the image was printed, rather than by a separate colour printing plate. The technique was widely used for historic botanical, bird and natural history plates, which is why the look feels antique and illustrative. Canvas prints in this style are modern decorative reproductions of that artwork, capturing the soft washes and fine linework of the originals.

What is the difference between a print and a lithograph?

"Print" is the broad term for any reproduced image, while a lithograph is one specific printmaking method in which the image is drawn onto a stone or plate and transferred to paper. So every lithograph is a print, but not every print is a lithograph. What you buy here is a decorative reproduction of lithographic artwork printed onto canvas, chosen for its style rather than as a hand-pulled impression.

What should I look for when buying a canvas print?

Compare image sharpness, colour depth and finish quality first, since a soft hand-coloured look depends on faithful reproduction. Then check the practical terms: whether the canvas comes framed or unframed, delivery costs and how long you have to return it. With us, shipping is free and returns are accepted within 99 days, and a framed canvas arrives as one finished piece with no separate frame to buy or assemble.
