What's the difference between line-art faces, abstract portraits, and Pop-style portrait prints?

The main difference is how much of the face stays recognizable and how loud the color gets. Line-art faces are minimal contour drawings, usually one or two colors with little or no shading, so they read quiet and graphic and sit easily in neutral rooms. Abstract portraits simplify, fragment or distort features until a figure is only suggested, favoring mood over likeness. Pop-style portraits keep the face clearly readable but push flat, saturated color, high contrast and mass-media graphics, making them the boldest focal point of the three.

Is it strange to display a portrait of someone you don't know in your home?

Not at all, and designers even have a nickname for it: "stranger art." Hanging an unfamiliar face is a long-standing decorating habit, and the appeal is the artwork rather than the person, since color, brushwork, mood and composition are what shape a room. A single face draws the eye and gives a space soul and a story guests want to ask about. To keep it from feeling austere, group portraits with everyday objects, books or other art, or set canvas pieces on a shelf or mantel instead of centered alone on a wall.
