How do I create a travel gallery wall that actually looks good?
The key is restraint. Pick three to five travel art prints from the same colour palette or artistic style (all vintage travel posters, for example, or all coastal destinations in soft tones) rather than mixing random photos from every holiday you've ever taken. Start with one larger print, around 50x70cm, slightly off-centre, then build outward with smaller pieces leaving roughly 5-7cm between frames. Matching frames in black or natural oak pull the whole thing together and stop it looking like a hostel noticeboard. Our framed prints arrive ready to hang, so you can lay the whole arrangement on the floor first and get it right before committing a single nail hole.
Which travel prints work best in a bedroom?
You want prints that feel calm rather than busy, so steer toward destination prints with muted palettes: think dusky Mediterranean coastlines, soft Japanese watercolour landscapes, or vintage travel posters in faded pastels. A single framed print at 50x70cm centred above your headboard is the cleanest approach for a standard UK double or king bed. Avoid anything with heavy contrast or neon colours, because you'll be staring at it while trying to fall asleep. Our giclée prints on thick matte paper have zero glare, which matters enormously in a room with bedside lamps.
Should I go for vintage travel posters or modern travel art?
Vintage travel posters, with their bold typography and flat colour blocks, suit rooms that already have some character: period homes, eclectic living rooms, spaces with warm wood furniture. Modern travel art, like minimalist line drawings of city skylines or photographic prints, tends to work better in contemporary interiors with clean lines and neutral walls. If you're trying to complete a room that feels a bit generic, vintage posters add instant personality in a way that modern prints don't always manage. Either way, proper framing is what separates "looks like art" from "looks like something pinned up in a student flat," so go framed.
How big should a travel print be for above my sofa?
The 2/3 rule is your friend here: your print or arrangement should span roughly two-thirds the width of whatever it sits above. For a standard three-seater sofa (around 200cm wide), that means going for a single large print at 70x100cm, or a set of two to three framed travel prints that collectively fill about 130cm of wall space. Going too small is the most common mistake and it'll look like an afterthought floating on a vast wall. We offer travel art prints up to 70x100cm in framed options, which makes a genuine statement without needing to build a full gallery wall.
What kind of travel wall art is trending right now?
Right now, there's a strong move toward illustrative destination prints with a retro feel, not quite full vintage poster, more like mid-century-inspired artwork with soft earthy tones and graphic compositions. City skyline prints have shifted from photographic to more stylised and abstract. We're also seeing a lot of travel themed wall art grouped by colour story rather than by destination, so a warm terracotta set might feature Morocco, Tuscany, and Arizona together. The "random fridge magnet" approach to travel decor is firmly out. Curated, intentional collections that happen to reference places you love are very much in.
