Who was Eugene Seguy?

Emile-Allain Séguy, usually credited as E.A. Séguy, was a French designer working during the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements of the 1920s and early 1930s. He is best known for eleven decorative portfolios of plates showing butterflies, beetles, flowers, foliage and other nature motifs, rendered in bright, bold colour. His designs were created as inspiration for textiles and decorative arts, which is why they read as pattern as much as illustration.

What is pochoir, and how does it relate to these prints?

Pochoir is a hand-stencil coloring process used for Séguy's original 1920s portfolios, and it is what gives the plates their flat, saturated blocks of colour and crisp outlines. Our wall art are modern decorative reproductions of those historic designs rather than period pochoir plates, so you get the same bold graphic look without the fragility of an antique portfolio page.

Is Seguy's work Art Nouveau or Art Deco?

Both, depending on the portfolio. Séguy designed across the overlap between the two movements, so some plates carry the flowing, botanical line of Art Nouveau while others lean into the geometry and jewel-like colour blocking associated with Art Deco. That dual character is useful at home: the florals suit softer, more traditional rooms, while the bolder geometric plates sit well with mid-century or contemporary furniture.
