Which butterfly art prints work best in a bedroom?

For bedrooms, we'd steer you towards butterfly artwork in soft, muted palettes: dusty pinks, sage greens, or warm neutrals. A single framed butterfly print in 40x50cm or 50x70cm sits beautifully above a bedside table or chest of drawers without overwhelming the space. If you've got a larger wall above the bed, go for a 70x100cm statement piece or a set of two matching botanical butterfly prints hung symmetrically. Our prints are giclée-printed on thick matte paper, so you get rich detail without any distracting glare from bedside lamps.

How should I arrange a butterfly wall art set?

For a set of two, hang them side by side with about 5cm between frames, centred above your sofa or console table. For three prints, a horizontal row works best at equal spacing, with the centre print at eye level (roughly 150cm from the floor to the middle of the frame). A common mistake is spacing prints too far apart, which makes them look disconnected rather than intentional. Stick to the same frame finish across the set for a cohesive look, and our solid wood frames in natural oak or classic black are the ones we recommend most for butterfly sets.

What colours pair well with butterfly prints?

It depends on the print, but here's a strong starting point: vintage butterfly prints with warm, earthy tones look fantastic against walls in off-white, soft terracotta, or sage green. More vibrant, colourful butterfly wall art holds its own against deeper tones like navy or charcoal. If you're working with a neutral room and want the print to be the focal point, keep surrounding decor simple and let the butterflies bring the colour. Avoid hanging brightly coloured butterfly art against a busy wallpaper; it creates visual noise instead of a statement.

Are vintage butterfly prints still on trend?

Very much so, and they've arguably become a modern classic rather than a passing trend. The resurgence of botanical and naturalist interiors has kept vintage butterfly prints firmly in demand, especially the scientific illustration style inspired by 18th and 19th-century entomology. They work particularly well in studies, hallways, and living rooms where you want something that feels considered and grown-up. We'd recommend framing them in our black or natural oak frame with a white mount for that clean, gallery-ready finish.

What does a butterfly symbolise in art?

Butterflies have been symbols of transformation, renewal, and hope across cultures for centuries. In Western art, they often represent the soul or the fleeting nature of beauty, while in East Asian traditions they're tied to joy and marital happiness. That symbolism makes butterfly wall art a genuinely thoughtful gift for someone who's just moved into a new home, started a new chapter, or welcomed a baby. Beyond the meaning, they're simply beautiful subjects that bring natural elegance to any room without feeling heavy or overly thematic.
