What is Collioure and why do artists paint it?

Collioure is a small port town on the French Mediterranean coast, near the Spanish border, that became famous in the summer of 1905 when Henri Matisse and André Derain painted there. Its intense sunlight, colored boats and terracotta rooftops pushed them toward the vivid, unmixed colors that gave Fauvism its name. Works such as Open Window, Collioure and Landscape at Collioure came out of that period.

Which rooms suit Collioure prints best?

The loose brushwork and warm pink, green, blue and orange palette of Collioure scenes bring an easy Mediterranean lift to living rooms, hallways and dining spaces. They also work well in bedrooms and sunrooms, where the seaside light feels natural.
