About This Art

Back in 1910, this dancing fox belonged to another kind of home — a Japanese interior of paper screens, low light and quiet wood. It carries that calm with it. The fox is poised on its hind legs, a lotus leaf tipped over one ear, half mischief and half ceremony.

Hang it and the room slows down a notch. The aged off-white ground reads as warm rather than blank, so painted walls and natural plaster both lift it nicely. The soft yellow of the coat gives just enough warmth without pulling the whole room toward it.

It sits best at eye level above a low console, a writing desk or a chest of drawers — somewhere it can be looked at properly. Narrow walls and reading corners suit it well.

Pair with pale oak, linen, stoneware and a little blackened metal. It also works near houseplants without competing.

Avoid hanging it next to anything loud or high-contrast — this fox holds the wall on its own.

Are Fab canvas prints good quality?

Absolutely. We use museum-grade canvas (the same stuff galleries use) stretched over solid wood frames. The canvas is thick enough that you can't see through it, and we wrap the print around the edges so there's no white border it looks finished from every angle.

When people see it on your wall, they'll assume you bought it at a gallery, not online.

Does it come ready to hang? Is it available framed?

Yes to both. Every canvas comes stretched over solid wood and ready to hang - hardware's already on the back, just hang it up.

You can choose unframed (modern, minimalist look - the print wraps around the edges) or add our real wood frame for a more polished, gallery finish. Either way, it's ready to go straight on your wall. No assembly, no extra trips to the frame shop.

How do I know what size will actually work in my space?

Here's the rule of thumb: your canvas should take up about 2/3 to 3/4 of the width of your furniture (like a sofa or bed). So if your couch is 180cm, you want something around 100-120cm wide.

Too small of a canvas looks lost on the wall. Too big overwhelms the room. If you're between sizes, go bigger it's almost always better to have impact than to have something that disappears.

What's your return policy?

If it shows up and you're not happy with it, you have 99 days to return it for a full refund—no questions asked.

Is the background actually off-white or does it look grey on the wall?

It reads warm off-white — closer to soft oat than grey. The original 1910 paper has aged into a gentle cream tone, and the print holds that. Against a cool grey wall it can read slightly muddy, so it sits best on warm neutrals: plaster, oat, soft cream or natural linen-painted walls.

Is the fox lighthearted or does it carry a darker folklore meaning?

It's on the playful side. Japanese fox-spirit folklore (kitsune) covers both mischief and menace, but Koson's fox is dancing with a lotus leaf on its head — clearly the comic version. The piece reads as gently witty rather than mysterious or unsettling, which is why it works in studies and bedrooms.

Will it look too small on a larger wall above a sofa?

Possibly. The composition has a lot of empty paper around the figure, so it's designed to be looked at fairly close — above a console, desk or chest of drawers, not floating above a three-seater sofa. If you want it in a living room, pair it with one or two companion Koson prints to hold the wall together.
