How big should artwork above my bed be?
Your bedroom wall art should span roughly two-thirds the width of your headboard. For a standard UK double bed with a 135cm headboard, that means a print around 70x100cm hits the sweet spot. If you go too small it'll look like an afterthought floating on the wall. Should I hang art prints above my bed, or is it a bad idea?
Absolutely hang art above your bed. It's the natural focal point of any bedroom and a blank wall above the headboard always looks unfinished. The one concern people have is safety, but our framed prints use lightweight acrylic glazing rather than heavy glass, and they arrive properly fitted with secure hanging fixtures. A single large bedroom art print centred above the headboard looks far more intentional than a cluster of small frames.
What kind of art prints work best in a bedroom?
Bedrooms are where you wind down, so we'd steer you toward subjects with a quieter energy: soft landscapes, abstract pieces with muted tones, or gentle botanical studies. Bold pop art and high-contrast photography tend to work better in living spaces. For a master bedroom, a single large framed print in warm neutrals or dusty pastels creates a calm, pulled-together feel without competing with your bedding or curtains for attention.
How high should I hang a print above my bed?
Leave a gap of 15 to 25cm between the top of your headboard and the bottom edge of the frame. This is close enough to look connected to the bed rather than drifting up toward the ceiling. If you don't have a headboard, imagine one and hang at the same height. The centre of the print should end up roughly at eye level when you're standing, which also makes it the first thing you see when you walk in.
What are the best colours for bedroom wall art?
Pick colours that are already in your bedding or soft furnishings, then let the art echo them in a slightly different tone. For most bedrooms, warm earth tones, soft greens, and dusty blues create a restful atmosphere. If your room is mostly neutral, your bedroom wall art is the perfect place to introduce a single accent colour like terracotta or sage. We'd avoid anything with large areas of pure white or bright red directly above the bed as they tend to feel too energising for a space meant for sleep.
