About This Art

With a vintage bird study, scale decides whether the study wakes up. Go too small and the long tail and flower heads lose their pull; at a decent size the whole wall settles into a quieter, older mood. The aged cream background does the heavy lifting, softening a room with hard modern edges and giving dark teal and dusty purple somewhere to sit. Hang it above a writing desk, a low chest of drawers, or on its own in a hallway where people pass close and look properly. Pair it with dark wood, aged leather, linen and stoneware in earthy tones. Don't hang it beside bright graphic posters or busy florals — the fine feather detail needs space to be seen. As canvas, the surface mutes the shine and pushes the aged look further.

Are Fab canvas prints good quality?

Absolutely. We use museum-grade canvas (the same stuff galleries use) stretched over solid wood frames. The canvas is thick enough that you can't see through it, and we wrap the print around the edges so there's no white border it looks finished from every angle.

When people see it on your wall, they'll assume you bought it at a gallery, not online.

Does it come ready to hang? Is it available framed?

Yes to both. Every canvas comes stretched over solid wood and ready to hang - hardware's already on the back, just hang it up.

You can choose unframed (modern, minimalist look - the print wraps around the edges) or add our real wood frame for a more polished, gallery finish. Either way, it's ready to go straight on your wall. No assembly, no extra trips to the frame shop.

How do I know what size will actually work in my space?

Here's the rule of thumb: your canvas should take up about 2/3 to 3/4 of the width of your furniture (like a sofa or bed). So if your couch is 180cm, you want something around 100-120cm wide.

Too small of a canvas looks lost on the wall. Too big overwhelms the room. If you're between sizes, go bigger it's almost always better to have impact than to have something that disappears.

Still not sure? Contact our team with a photo of your space and we'll tell you exactly what size will work.

What's your return policy?

If it shows up and you're not happy with it, you have 99 days to return it for a full refund—no questions asked.

We've been doing this long enough to know that sometimes a piece just doesn't work in your space, and that's fine. Just email us and we'll sort it out.

Will the dusty purple flowers clash with a green wall?

No — the purple here is soft and greyed rather than bright, so it sits happily against deep green, olive or clay paint. Those wall colours actually strengthen the aged cream background and make the dark teal of the bird read more clearly. On a cool grey or stark white wall the colours have less to push against.

How much wall space does the long tail need?

More than you might think. The tail sweeps down and off the lower left, so the composition reads best with clear wall beneath and to the side. Allow around 70cm of wall width at large size, and avoid stacking objects or shelves directly under it — the sweep needs somewhere to travel.

Does it still work if the rest of my room is quite modern?

Yes, and that contrast is often the point. The faded paper tone and traditional subject soften rooms full of straight lines, flat paint and pale wood. Keep the rest of the wall bare so it reads as a deliberate older note rather than a stray antique among modern pieces.
