About This Art

In the 1950s, this would have felt radical. It still does. A whole cat pulled out of nothing but fast black pen lines on white. On the wall it does the job a bold graphic piece should: it sharpens a soft room, gives a pale wall a focal point, and makes plain furniture look deliberate. Hang it at eye level in a hallway, above a desk, or on a narrow slice of wall between two windows. It sits happily with pale wood, black metal, linen and simple ceramics. Don't crowd it with other busy pictures, patterned wallpaper or heavy ornament nearby — the empty white space around the cat is doing half the work. As a canvas the lines read softer and the piece sits flat against the wall with no shine.

Are Fab canvas prints good quality?

Absolutely. We use museum-grade canvas (the same stuff galleries use) stretched over solid wood frames. The canvas is thick enough that you can't see through it, and we wrap the print around the edges so there's no white border it looks finished from every angle.

When people see it on your wall, they'll assume you bought it at a gallery, not online.

Does it come ready to hang? Is it available framed?

Yes to both. Every canvas comes stretched over solid wood and ready to hang - hardware's already on the back, just hang it up.

You can choose unframed (modern, minimalist look - the print wraps around the edges) or add our real wood frame for a more polished, gallery finish. Either way, it's ready to go straight on your wall. No assembly, no extra trips to the frame shop.

How do I know what size will actually work in my space?

Here's the rule of thumb: your canvas should take up about 2/3 to 3/4 of the width of your furniture (like a sofa or bed). So if your couch is 180cm, you want something around 100-120cm wide.

Too small of a canvas looks lost on the wall. Too big overwhelms the room. If you're between sizes, go bigger it's almost always better to have impact than to have something that disappears.

Still not sure? Contact our team with a photo of your space and we'll tell you exactly what size will work.

What's your return policy?

If it shows up and you're not happy with it, you have 99 days to return it for a full refund—no questions asked.

We've been doing this long enough to know that sometimes a piece just doesn't work in your space, and that's fine. Just email us and we'll sort it out.

Does it still read as a cat from across the room?

Yes. Up close you mostly see tangled pen lines, but step back a couple of metres and the ears, face and curled tail lock into place. That shift is the point of the piece, so give it a viewing distance of around 1.5 to 3 metres and it will read clearly.

Will it look too stark on a white wall?

Not usually. The white background merges with a pale wall so the cat appears to sit directly on it, which is a strong look. If you want more definition, a slim black frame draws a clean edge, or hang it on a soft grey or warm off-white wall instead.

What size should I choose for a hallway?

Go larger than feels obvious. The drawing has a lot of open white space, so smaller sizes make the lines look thin and lose the loose energy. A large portrait size on a wall stretch of at least 70cm gives it room, even in a narrow hallway where you pass close by.

Is it a specific breed of cat?

It reads as a long-haired cat with tufted ears and a heavy tail, so most people see a Maine Coon or similar. It isn't a breed study though — the lines suggest the shape rather than record markings, so it works as a general cat piece for any owner.
