What is Diego Rivera's most famous artwork?
Rivera is best known for his large-scale murals, including the Detroit Industry cycle, which helped define the Mexican Muralist movement. Among his easel paintings, The Flower Carrier and his flower-seller scenes are the most widely recognized and the most popular as wall-art reproductions. Because murals are fixed to buildings, prints are the usual way to bring his imagery home.
What art style did Diego Rivera use?
Rivera pioneered Mexico's mural movement in the early 20th century, working in a bold, simplified figurative style with strong outlines, monumental figures and saturated color rooted in Mexican folk and indigenous subjects. He also experimented with European modernism, including Cubist-influenced still lifes, early in his career. That mix of flat graphic shapes and warm color is what makes his work translate so well to prints.
