Riguardo a quest'opera
Persino l’ottone qui sembra più prezioso accanto all’ocra. Il ritratto del 1891 di Bonnard trasforma la parete su cui lo appendi in qualcosa di curato ma mai artefatto. Il motivo a quadretti indaco e lo spaniel dorato fanno la parte del leone; tutto il resto della stanza può rilassarsi. Appendilo dove ci si siede e si resta — sopra una poltrona da lettura, in fondo a un corridoio che si apre sul soggiorno, oppure sopra una madia bassa con due lampade da tavolo ai lati. Si abbina bene al noce, all’ottone anticato, alla pelle color bordeaux scuro e a qualsiasi tessuto in indaco polveroso o senape. Evita di accostarlo ad altri motivi elaborati o a un altro ritratto dai toni saturi: quest’opera vuole che la parete respiri attorno a sé. Stampato su carta fine art premium, incorniciato con protezione in vetro acrilico.

How do I frame an art print?
Good news—you don’t have to!
All of our prints are available professionally framed and ready to hang, so you can skip the trip to the framing shop and get straight to the fun part: styling your space. Here’s more info about our frames and service:
- Your choice of timeless frames - natural wood, black, white, brown, silver and, of course, gold.
- We use shatter-resistant acrylic glazing keeping delivery costs down and shielding your print from fading or sun damage—something cheaper glazes just don’t do.
- Every frame is carefully sealed on the back using acid-free, archival tape —keeping dust and moisture out and your print beautifully preserved.
- Hanging hardware already attached so just unbox, hang, and enjoy.
Prefer to frame it yourself? That’s totally fine too—we offer unframed prints in standard and A-sizes that fit most frames you can buy.

How do I hang art prints?
It’s easier than you think—especially since our framed prints arrive ready to hang straight out of the box.
Here’s how to do it in a few simple steps:
- Pick a wall that needs a little love—above a sofa, bed, desk, or entryway works great.
- Make sure the space suits the size of your print (our size guide can help). Use painter’s tape or a pencil to mark where you want the top of the frame to sit.
- For single prints, aim for eye level (around 57–60 inches from the floor). Every Fab framed print comes with hanging hardware already attached.
Use a picture hook, nail, or adhesive wall strips, depending on your wall type and the weight of the frame. That’s it—your space just got a whole lot more beautiful.
Bonus tip: For a gallery wall, lay your prints on the floor first to plan your layout before committing to the wall
Is the indigo check pattern going to fight with patterned upholstery or a patterned rug in the same room?
Yes, if the other pattern is also large-scale and high-contrast. The diagonal check is the strongest pattern in this piece. Pair it with solid upholstery in indigo, mustard, or aged leather, and keep any rug pattern small-scale and tonal — a worn persian or a low-key wool weave works well. Save bolder pattern for cushions and throws.
Does the ochre dominate, or do the indigo and figures hold their own?
The ochre spaniel and the gold ground on the right are the warmest pull, but the indigo check anchors the centre and the two women's faces lead the eye. On the wall it reads as roughly balanced — warm gold on one side, deep indigo on the other — which is why it sits so comfortably in a walnut-and-brass room.
Will the loose 1890s brushwork still read clearly at a medium size, or does it need to go larger?
Medium is the sweet spot. Bonnard's brushwork is loose by design — going too large can make the faces feel unfocused, while too small loses the indigo check's rhythm. At roughly A2 to 50×70cm the figures, the spaniel, and the gathering of people behind all read clearly from a sofa or armchair viewing distance.
