We’re serious about art, ask away
From sizing to framing and print quality, Fab's art experts break it all down—so you can find the right art for your space.
What type of food and drink art prints work best in a kitchen?
For kitchens, we think bold, graphic food prints beat subtle ones every time. Kitchens are busy, well-lit rooms, so you want something with strong colour and clear composition that reads well from across the space. A single framed print of citrus fruit or a coffee still life in the 40x50cm to 50x70cm range sits perfectly on a narrow wall between cabinets or above a breakfast bar. Our food prints for kitchen walls are giclée printed on thick matte paper, so you get rich, saturated colour without glare from overhead lighting or window reflections.
What size food art prints should I hang in my kitchen or dining room?
For a kitchen, most people overestimate wall space and underestimate how much a small print can disappear next to a fridge. Above a kitchen counter or open shelving, a 30x40cm or 40x50cm framed print is the sweet spot. For a dining room, go bigger. A 50x70cm or 70x100cm food or wine art print centred above a sideboard or on the wall your guests face while eating creates a genuine focal point. The general rule: your art should fill roughly two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it.
Will food and drink prints look dated quickly?
Some will, yes. Chalkboard-style "kitchen rules" prints and novelty coffee slogans had their moment around 2015, and it's passed. What doesn't date is well-composed food photography, vintage botanical fruit illustrations, or painterly wine still lifes. These subjects have been on gallery and kitchen walls for literally centuries. Our vintage food prints and food photography prints are curated with longevity in mind, so you're investing in something that still looks intentional five years from now, not something destined for a charity shop.
How do I create a food-themed gallery wall in my kitchen or dining room?
Start with three prints, not seven. Pick a colour thread (warm tones like terracotta, olive, and cream work brilliantly for food subjects) and mix styles: one food photography print, one illustrated or vintage piece, and one graphic or typographic print. Stick to the same frame finish across all of them for cohesion. A tight cluster of three frames above a dining table or on the wall beside your kitchen doorway looks considered rather than cluttered. All our framed prints arrive ready to hang with fixtures attached, so you can get the arrangement on the wall in one session rather than wrestling with separate frames.
What kind of food and drink artwork suits a dining room?
Dining rooms are where you can go richer and more atmospheric than you would in a kitchen. Think wine art prints, moody food photography with deep backgrounds, or painterly still lifes with fruit, bread, and bottles. These subjects echo what the room is for and create a warm, convivial mood for guests. A single large framed print (50x70cm or 70x100cm) on the wall opposite or adjacent to the table is our favourite approach. It gives people something beautiful to look at during long dinners without competing with the table setting. Our frames are solid FSC-certified wood with UV-protective glazing, so even a print on a sun-facing dining room wall stays vibrant for years.
