Which Australian birds appear most often in wall art prints?

The most frequently pictured are the laughing kookaburra, galah, sulphur-crested cockatoo and rainbow lorikeet, followed by Australian magpies, rosellas, superb fairy-wrens, black cockatoos, tawny frogmouths and the emu. These species dominate because they are the birds people actually see in back gardens, city parks and gum trees, and their bold silhouettes and saturated plumage read clearly at wall-art scale. For styling, pink-and-grey galahs and jewel-toned lorikeets carry a colour-led room, while a white cockatoo, magpie or small wren keeps a neutral scheme calm.

Who was John Gould and why do his Birds of Australia illustrations still shape bird art prints?

John Gould (1804-1881) was an English ornithologist and publisher whose seven-volume The Birds of Australia, issued in parts between 1840 and 1848, was the first comprehensive survey of the continent's birdlife, describing hundreds of species new to Western science. The hand-coloured lithographic plates, drawn by a team that included his wife Elizabeth Gould and Henry Constantine Richter, set the visual template still echoed in Australian bird art: a single species shown large and sharply observed, with sparse foliage and plenty of pale background. That clean, scientific-yet-decorative look reads well framed or unframed in almost any room.
