Which rooms suit calm lake wall art best?

Lake scenes work anywhere you want the mood to slow down. Bedrooms and living rooms are the obvious homes for them, but a still-water scene also softens a bathroom, a home office or a hallway that gets little natural light. Because the palettes tend towards soft blues, greens and warm neutrals, they sit comfortably with most existing décor rather than competing with it.

Should I choose a wide horizontal canvas or a square one?

Match the shape to the wall. A wide horizontal canvas echoes the natural line of a shoreline and is the easiest choice above a sofa, bed or console, where it fills the space without crowding it. Square or portrait formats suit narrower walls, stairwells and alcoves, or work well grouped in a pair. As a rule of thumb, aim for artwork roughly two-thirds the width of the furniture below it (for example, for a sofa about 210 cm (about 2.1 m) wide, choose artwork around 140 cm (about 1.4 m)).
