Do prints on canvas look good for antique engraving imagery?

Yes. Canvas has a soft woven surface that flatters the fine lines and delicate tinting typical of hand-coloured engravings, giving reproductions a warmer, more painterly feel than glossy paper. The texture also cuts glare, so detailed line work stays readable from across a room. Choose a size large enough that the engraved detail reads clearly rather than disappearing into the weave.

What is the difference between a framed canvas and an unframed canvas print?

A framed canvas arrives as one finished product with the frame already fitted, so there is nothing to assemble and no separate frame to buy. An unframed canvas is the printed canvas on its own, which suits a more casual, contemporary look. Framing tends to give engraving-style imagery a more traditional, library-room feel, while unframed keeps the presentation simple and modern.

Can I paint or add colour over a canvas print?

People sometimes add touches of acrylic to a canvas print, but with hand-coloured engraving reproductions it is rarely worth it: the appeal lies in the crisp engraved lines and the soft, historic tinting, which overpainting tends to obscure. If a piece doesn't suit your room, changing the size, the framing or the wall colour behind it usually has more impact. Returns are open for 99 days if you change your mind.
