We’re serious about art, ask away
From sizing to framing and print quality, Fab's art experts break it all down—so you can find the right art for your space.
What's the difference between a poster and an art print?
Most posters you'll find online are thin, mass-produced sheets that curl at the edges and fade within a year. Our poster art prints are museum-grade giclée prints on thick matte paper with inks rated to last hundreds of years, even in direct sunlight. They look and feel like something you'd see in a gallery, not something you'd Blu-Tack to a dorm wall. If you're decorating a living room or bedroom properly, this is the quality level that actually makes a wall feel finished.
What size poster print should I get for above a sofa or bed?
For above a standard UK sofa (around 180-200cm wide), go for a 70x100cm print or a pair of 50x70cm prints with about 5cm between them. Above a double bed, a single 50x70cm or 70x100cm centred on the headboard looks best. The most common mistake is going too small, which makes the wall feel emptier than before you started. Our largest poster prints go up to 70x100cm, which is a genuinely impactful size for a statement piece without overwhelming the room.
Should I buy my poster framed or unframed?
If you're putting art on the wall of a living room, bedroom, or hallway you care about, get it framed. Unframed prints are great if you already have a frame you love, but our framed poster prints arrive ready to hang with solid FSC-certified wood frames and UV-protective acrylic glaze, so there's no DIY assembly or trips to a framing shop. One thing we hear constantly from customers is that the framing quality is better than they expected, and honestly, bad framing (warping, bubbling, prints that don't sit flush) is the number one thing that makes wall art look cheap.
How do I pick the right poster for a room that feels unfinished?
Start with what's already in the room, not what's trending on Pinterest. If your space has warm neutrals and wood tones, look at vintage or botanical poster prints in earthy palettes. If you're working with a cooler, more minimal setup (grey sofa, white walls), modern art posters with clean lines or muted tones will pull things together faster than a bold colour pop. Pick one wall that draws your eye when you walk in and commit to a single large piece or a tight pair. That alone will make the room feel intentional rather than half-done.
Are poster prints a good option for gifts?
They're one of the best gifts you can give someone who's just moved or is decorating, because most people never get around to buying their own wall art. A framed poster print from Fab arrives ready to hang in a single box, so there's no awkward assembly required. We'd recommend a 30x40cm or 40x50cm framed print as the sweet spot for a gift: it's a meaningful size without being so large you're dictating their whole room. Plus our 99-day returns policy means they can swap it if their taste runs differently to yours.
