Contemporary Art Prints

4.8

Contemporary art covers a lot of ground, which is why this collection runs from quiet colour studies to bold, graphic statements. If you already know the shape of what you want, narrow it down: contemporary abstract art prints for colour and movement, contemporary figurative art prints when you want a human presence in the room, or minimalist abstract art prints if the wall is doing enough already. Choose a piece unframed, or framed and ready to hang.

I Googled the Colors I Wanted and Found my Perfect Print

I just moved from a three-bedroom, two story house to a two bedroom ground floor apartment. This is the start of my new life and I want new things in my new place. I stumbled across Fab by Googling, "Print, gold, teal, brown" and they popped up. I found the perfect picture in the perfect orientation with the perfect frame. My anal-retentive brother came over and hung it for me--Perfectly level! It looks perfect. I'm already eyeballing another print for my bedroom that has yet to be decorated. I'll definitely buy from them again.

The colors are vibrant and the quality of the print is excellent. The paper it is printed on is very good quality, too. Will definitely buy more prints from you, I've very impressed with overall.

Choosing a contemporary print

Short answers on framing, scale, colour matching and where a contemporary piece works best at home

How do I pick the right size contemporary art print for my living room wall?

For the wall above a standard UK sofa (around 180-200cm wide), we'd go with a single large contemporary art print at 70x100cm or a pair of 40x50cm prints spaced about 5cm apart. A single large print makes a bolder, more confident statement, which suits the spirit of contemporary art better than a cluttered gallery wall. If your wall is narrower, say above a console table or side unit, a 50x70cm framed print hits the sweet spot. Our contemporary art prints for living rooms go up to 70x100cm framed, and they arrive ready to hang with fixtures already attached, so you're not fiddling with fittings on a Saturday afternoon.

Will the colours and detail look as good in person as they do on screen?

They'll look better. That's not marketing speak; it's probably our most common piece of customer feedback. We use museum-grade giclée printing on thick matte paper, which gives contemporary art prints a depth and richness that screens physically cannot reproduce. There's no glare from the paper, and our UV-protective acrylic glaze means the colours won't fade even in a sun-drenched south-facing room. If you've been burned before by prints that arrived washed out or flimsy, this is a different experience entirely.

Should I go framed or unframed with contemporary art prints?

Framed, almost every time. A contemporary art print in a solid wood frame looks intentional and finished, like something you chose with purpose rather than something you downloaded and stuck to the wall. Our frames are made from FSC-certified wood (real wood, not MDF), and the print arrives already properly fitted and ready to hang, so there's zero risk of warping, bubbling, or that depressing gap between print and frame. If you're decorating a bedroom or study and want a cleaner, more pared-back look, an unframed print in a simple clip frame can work, but for living spaces and hallways, framed is the way to go.

Can I mix contemporary abstract art prints with more figurative pieces?

Absolutely, and we'd actually encourage it. A strong contemporary abstract print paired with a figurative or still life piece creates tension that makes both works more interesting. The key is to anchor them with a shared colour palette or a consistent frame finish. For example, a bold geometric abstract next to a muted contemporary portrait, both in natural oak frames, looks cohesive without being matchy. Just avoid mixing more than two or three distinct styles in one sightline or it starts to feel like a charity shop wall rather than a curated home.

How is contemporary art different from modern art when it comes to choosing prints?

Modern art refers to a specific period, roughly the 1860s to the 1970s, think Matisse, Rothko, Mondrian. Contemporary art is everything from the 1970s to right now, so it's far broader in style, medium, and mood. In practical terms, contemporary art prints tend to feel more current and versatile in today's interiors because they're made in dialogue with the spaces we actually live in. If your room already has clean lines and a neutral palette, contemporary prints will sit more naturally than a bold mid-century modern piece. If you're drawn to both, our collections span both styles, so you can browse and see what pulls you in.
