What are the four main types of still life art?

Still life is usually grouped into four broad families: flower pieces, food and banquet scenes, symbolic arrangements built around ideas like time and mortality, and everyday household objects such as vessels, books or tools. Minimalist versions keep the same subjects but strip the composition back to a few shapes, quiet colours and generous empty space, so the mood reads calm rather than ornate.

Are canvas prints outdated in 2026?

No. Canvas remains one of the most widely sold wall-art formats, and still life stays a perennial subject because it works in almost any room. What has changed is the styling: chunky multi-panel arrangements have given way to single, calmer pieces, and modern or minimalist compositions now sit alongside the traditional ones. A pared-back still life on canvas reads current rather than dated.
