What are botanical prints called?

Botanical art goes by several names depending on style and era. Detailed, scientific-looking plant studies are often called botanical illustrations or botanical plates, while looser painted styles are described as botanical watercolours. Prints showing a plant in a container are usually labeled potted plant or house plant art, and broader plant imagery may sit under still life. Any of these terms can lead you to similar decorative wall art.

How do you style potted plant prints on a wall?

Potted plant art works beautifully in sets, which is why sets of three or four are so common. Hang two or three prints in matching frames in a row for a calm, ordered look, or mix sizes in a small grid for a fuller gallery wall. Green and terracotta tones sit well against white, sage or warm neutral walls, and the motif suits kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and desk areas.

Should I choose an art print or a canvas print?

Paper art prints show fine linework and delicate watercolour washes crisply, which suits detailed botanical illustration styles, and they look especially polished behind a frame. Canvas has a softer, more painterly surface that echoes the look of a brushed still life. A framed canvas arrives as one finished piece, so nothing needs assembling. Both formats are available framed or unframed, so it comes down to the finish you prefer.
