    About This Art

What it adds isn't clutter. It's vertical tension in the right places. One tall, quiet bird on a pale background, and suddenly the wall has a centre. The grey feathers keep things soft, while the orange-red bill and legs give a small jolt of warmth that reads across a room. Hang it at eye level in a hallway, above a writing desk, or between windows where the pale background catches the daylight. Pair it with linen, aged leather, cane and pale ceramics. What not to do: crowd it with heavy pattern or busy florals on the same wall, and skip a dark wall colour behind it, which swallows the pale paper background. As a canvas the surface stays matt, so the pale background reads soft rather than bright.

We're serious about canvas art, ask away

From sizing to framing and print quality, Fab's art experts break it all down—so you can find the right art for your space.

Are Fab canvas prints good quality?

Absolutely. We use museum-grade canvas (the same stuff galleries use) stretched over solid wood frames. The canvas is thick enough that you can't see through it, and we wrap the print around the edges so there's no white border it looks finished from every angle.

When people see it on your wall, they'll assume you bought it at a gallery, not online.

Does it come ready to hang? Is it available framed?

Yes to both. Every canvas comes stretched over solid wood and ready to hang - hardware's already on the back, just hang it up.

You can choose unframed (modern, minimalist look - the print wraps around the edges) or add our real wood frame for a more polished, gallery finish. Either way, it's ready to go straight on your wall. No assembly, no extra trips to the frame shop.

How do I know what size will actually work in my space?

Here's the rule of thumb: your canvas should take up about 2/3 to 3/4 of the width of your furniture (like a sofa or bed). So if your couch is 180cm, you want something around 100-120cm wide.

Too small of a canvas looks lost on the wall. Too big overwhelms the room. If you're between sizes, go bigger it's almost always better to have impact than to have something that disappears.

Still not sure? Contact our team with a photo of your space and we'll tell you exactly what size will work.

    What's your return policy?

If it shows up and you're not happy with it, you have 99 days to return it for a full refund—no questions asked.

We've been doing this long enough to know that sometimes a piece just doesn't work in your space, and that's fine. Just email us and we'll sort it out.

Will the pale background look washed out on a white wall?

The background is a warm off-white rather than pure white, so it usually reads as a soft cream against a bright white wall. If your walls are already cream or magnolia, add definition with a dark frame or hang it on a slightly deeper wall colour such as muted grey-green or soft clay.

Does it work on its own or does it need matching prints?

It holds a wall on its own. The tall shape and single subject give it a clear centre, which is why it suits narrow hallway walls and the space above a desk. If you would rather build a set, keep companions to other antique bird, shell or botanical plates on similar pale backgrounds.

How much of the small handwritten caption is visible?

The original caption line and plate number from the 1795 page are part of the image, sitting small along the bottom and top right. At medium size they read as fine detail rather than text you notice from across the room. Go larger if you want them clearly legible up close.
