    About This Art

Give the hallway wall one hard decision, and let everything else relax. This is an old-fashioned bird study — one coot, slate grey and near-black, standing on bare cream paper with nothing else competing for attention. Hung up, it does the job a plain wall can't: it gives the eye somewhere to land and makes the rest of the room look deliberately calm rather than unfinished. It suits a hallway, a study, or a wall above a sideboard at eye level. Pair it with painted panelling, linen, stoneware and dark or pale wood. Don't crowd it with loud pattern or bright colour — the wide cream margins are doing half the work, so leave breathing room around it. As a canvas, the soft background flattens into a matt, paper-like surface.

We're serious about canvas art, ask away

From sizing to framing and print quality, Fab's art experts break it all down—so you can find the right art for your space.

Are Fab canvas prints good quality?

Absolutely. We use museum-grade canvas (the same stuff galleries use) stretched over solid wood frames. The canvas is thick enough that you can't see through it, and we wrap the print around the edges so there's no white border it looks finished from every angle.

When people see it on your wall, they'll assume you bought it at a gallery, not online.

Does it come ready to hang? Is it available framed?

Yes to both. Every canvas comes stretched over solid wood and ready to hang - hardware's already on the back, just hang it up.

You can choose unframed (modern, minimalist look - the print wraps around the edges) or add our real wood frame for a more polished, gallery finish. Either way, it's ready to go straight on your wall. No assembly, no extra trips to the frame shop.

How do I know what size will actually work in my space?

Here's the rule of thumb: your canvas should take up about 2/3 to 3/4 of the width of your furniture (like a sofa or bed). So if your couch is 180cm, you want something around 100-120cm wide.

Too small of a canvas looks lost on the wall. Too big overwhelms the room. If you're between sizes, go bigger it's almost always better to have impact than to have something that disappears.

Still not sure? Contact our team with a photo of your space and we'll tell you exactly what size will work.

    What's your return policy?

If it shows up and you're not happy with it, you have 99 days to return it for a full refund—no questions asked.

We've been doing this long enough to know that sometimes a piece just doesn't work in your space, and that's fine. Just email us and we'll sort it out.

Will the pale background look washed out on a white wall?

It reads warmer than a white wall, so you'll still see the edge of the picture. If your walls are bright white, a narrow dark frame gives it a clear boundary. On off-white, grey-green or panelled walls it blends in more softly, which is usually the look people are after here.

Is the detail still clear at a smaller size?

The fine feather lines and the scaled feet hold up well at a medium size, which is where we'd start. Go very small and those details flatten into general grey. If the wall is wide, step up a size rather than adding more prints, so the bird keeps its scale.

Does it work with other bird prints or only on its own?

Both. On its own it gives one clear focal point. In a group, it sits best with other antique plates on cream backgrounds — birds, eggs, botanicals — hung at matching heights with even gaps. Mixing it with bright modern abstracts tends to make the muted greys look faded.
