    About This Art

When the study feels over-arranged, this kind of bird study helps. It brings one quiet subject, a lot of empty cream space, and nothing competing for attention. Hung above a writing desk or a low bookcase, it calms a wall that has too much going on and gives the eye somewhere to rest. It suits a chalky off-white wall, painted panelling or soft grey, and sits happily near brown wood, aged leather and linen. Keep the company around it restrained: other antique bird or plant studies, old maps, simple black-and-white photographs. Avoid crowding it with bright modern graphics or busy patterned wallpaper, which flattens the fine linework. As a canvas the soft cream ground reads as a matt, textured surface with no reflections.

We're serious about canvas art, ask away

From sizing to framing and print quality, Fab's art experts break it all down—so you can find the right art for your space.

Are Fab canvas prints good quality?

Absolutely. We use museum-grade canvas (the same stuff galleries use) stretched over solid wood frames. The canvas is thick enough that you can't see through it, and we wrap the print around the edges so there's no white border it looks finished from every angle.

When people see it on your wall, they'll assume you bought it at a gallery, not online.

Does it come ready to hang? Is it available framed?

Yes to both. Every canvas comes stretched over solid wood and ready to hang - hardware's already on the back, just hang it up.

You can choose unframed (modern, minimalist look - the print wraps around the edges) or add our real wood frame for a more polished, gallery finish. Either way, it's ready to go straight on your wall. No assembly, no extra trips to the frame shop.

How do I know what size will actually work in my space?

Here's the rule of thumb: your canvas should take up about 2/3 to 3/4 of the width of your furniture (like a sofa or bed). So if your couch is 180cm, you want something around 100-120cm wide.

Too small of a canvas looks lost on the wall. Too big overwhelms the room. If you're between sizes, go bigger it's almost always better to have impact than to have something that disappears.

Still not sure? Contact our team with a photo of your space and we'll tell you exactly what size will work.

    What's your return policy?

If it shows up and you're not happy with it, you have 99 days to return it for a full refund—no questions asked.

We've been doing this long enough to know that sometimes a piece just doesn't work in your space, and that's fine. Just email us and we'll sort it out.

Will the pale cream background look washed out on an off-white wall?

It can blend if the frame is too light, so go darker on the frame. A dark brown or black edge separates the cream ground from an off-white wall and pulls the grey and black feather detail forward. On soft grey or panelled walls the contrast is already there and a wood frame works well.

Does the old caption text at the bottom show clearly?

Yes. The original engraved caption naming the bird and the 1793 date sits along the bottom edge and is part of the charm. At medium size it reads as a fine line of script from a metre or so away, and at larger sizes you can read it properly up close.

Can I pair it with one other print rather than a full gallery wall?

It works nicely as a pair. Choose another antique study on a similar cream ground, ideally a second bird or a plant plate, and hang them at the same height with a consistent gap. Matching frames keeps the pairing tidy; mixing frame colours makes the two look unrelated.
