    About This Art

Three things it does fast: ground warm brown, sharpen brass, wake hallway. The cream background keeps the wall feeling light while the bird's dark tail and speckled chest give the room a firm point to settle on. Hang it at eye level in a hallway, above a small desk, or in a run of two or three along a dining wall. It gets on well with aged leather, dark wood, linen and old brass hooks, and it holds its own against a chalky off-white or soft sage wall. Don't crowd it with loud colour or big modern graphics; this one wants a little quiet space around it. As a canvas the aged paper tone reads softly, with a slight texture across the cream ground.

We're serious about canvas art, ask away

From sizing to framing and print quality, Fab's art experts break it all down—so you can find the right art for your space.

Are Fab canvas prints good quality?

Absolutely. We use museum-grade canvas (the same stuff galleries use) stretched over solid wood frames. The canvas is thick enough that you can't see through it, and we wrap the print around the edges so there's no white border it looks finished from every angle.

When people see it on your wall, they'll assume you bought it at a gallery, not online.

Does it come ready to hang? Is it available framed?

Yes to both. Every canvas comes stretched over solid wood and ready to hang - hardware's already on the back, just hang it up.

You can choose unframed (modern, minimalist look - the print wraps around the edges) or add our real wood frame for a more polished, gallery finish. Either way, it's ready to go straight on your wall. No assembly, no extra trips to the frame shop.

How do I know what size will actually work in my space?

Here's the rule of thumb: your canvas should take up about 2/3 to 3/4 of the width of your furniture (like a sofa or bed). So if your couch is 180cm, you want something around 100-120cm wide.

Too small of a canvas looks lost on the wall. Too big overwhelms the room. If you're between sizes, go bigger it's almost always better to have impact than to have something that disappears.

Still not sure? Contact our team with a photo of your space and we'll tell you exactly what size will work.

    What's your return policy?

If it shows up and you're not happy with it, you have 99 days to return it for a full refund—no questions asked.

We've been doing this long enough to know that sometimes a piece just doesn't work in your space, and that's fine. Just email us and we'll sort it out.

Will the cream background match my white walls?

It is warmer than a bright white wall, so expect a soft contrast rather than a seamless blend. That is normal for old paper studies and usually reads as intentional. If your walls are brilliant white, a frame in dark wood or black draws a clean edge and stops the background looking dull beside the paint.

Does the handwritten caption at the bottom stay in?

Yes. The engraved title and 1793 publication line sit along the bottom of the image and are part of the plate. They are small and fine, so they read as texture from across a room and only become legible up close. If you prefer a cleaner look, mount it with a wide border so the text sits quietly.

Can I hang this with botanical prints rather than other birds?

It works well. The shared cream ground and muted browns sit happily beside pressed ferns, herbals and flower plates. Keep frames consistent and hang tops or centres in line. Mix in one or two pieces with a touch of green if the wall starts to feel too brown overall.
