    About This Art

A hallway this pared back can take one serious black. The cat arrives as a single burst of movement on a quiet wall, and suddenly the whole run of white paint has a focal point instead of just passing through. Hang it at eye level on a narrow stretch of wall, or lean it above a low console where the loose tail line has room to breathe above it. It sits happily with pale wood, black metal legs, linen seating and plain white ceramics. Keep the wall around it clear — patterned wallpaper, busy shelving or another heavily drawn piece nearby will fight the scribble and blunt the joke. As a canvas the lines read softer and the piece hangs flush to the wall.

We're serious about canvas art, ask away

From sizing to framing and print quality, Fab's art experts break it all down—so you can find the right art for your space.

Are Fab canvas prints good quality?

Absolutely. We use museum-grade canvas (the same stuff galleries use) stretched over solid wood frames. The canvas is thick enough that you can't see through it, and we wrap the print around the edges so there's no white border it looks finished from every angle.

When people see it on your wall, they'll assume you bought it at a gallery, not online.

Does it come ready to hang? Is it available framed?

Yes to both. Every canvas comes stretched over solid wood and ready to hang - hardware's already on the back, just hang it up.

You can choose unframed (modern, minimalist look - the print wraps around the edges) or add our real wood frame for a more polished, gallery finish. Either way, it's ready to go straight on your wall. No assembly, no extra trips to the frame shop.

How do I know what size will actually work in my space?

Here's the rule of thumb: your canvas should take up about 2/3 to 3/4 of the width of your furniture (like a sofa or bed). So if your couch is 180cm, you want something around 100-120cm wide.

Too small of a canvas looks lost on the wall. Too big overwhelms the room. If you're between sizes, go bigger it's almost always better to have impact than to have something that disappears.

Still not sure? Contact our team with a photo of your space and we'll tell you exactly what size will work.

    What's your return policy?

If it shows up and you're not happy with it, you have 99 days to return it for a full refund—no questions asked.

We've been doing this long enough to know that sometimes a piece just doesn't work in your space, and that's fine. Just email us and we'll sort it out.

Will the scribbled lines still read as a cat from across a room?

Yes. The head, ears and striped body are the densest areas of ink, so the shape settles quickly from a couple of metres back. Up close you see the tangle of individual pen marks. If your wall is only viewed from very far away, size up so the thinner tail lines don't disappear.

How much bare wall does it need around it?

More than you'd think. The tail spirals off to one side and the shadow lines run past the paws, so the drawing reads best with clear space on all four sides. Aim for a wall stretch at least 60cm wide for a medium size, and resist hanging anything else within about 20cm of it.

Does it work in a room that isn't black and white?

It does, as long as the wall behind it is fairly plain. Pale wood, grey, greige and soft green walls all take it well. It's warm colour schemes with strong pink, terracotta or mustard walls where the pure black starts to look bolted on rather than part of the room.
