What are the most famous Audubon prints?

Among the best-known plates from Audubon's Birds of America are the Greater Flamingo, the Louisiana Heron, the Snowy Owl and the Great Horned Owl. Large wading birds and birds of prey tend to be the most reproduced because their life-size poses fill the tall plate format so dramatically. As decorative reproductions, these recognisable subjects are the easiest starting point if you want instant visual impact on a wall.

What is Audubon's Birds of America?

Birds of America is the colour-plate book John James Audubon produced between 1827 and 1839, comprising 435 life-size illustrations of North American bird species. The plates were printed from hand-engraved copper plates based on his watercolours, and the work is still regarded as one of the finest ornithological publications ever made. Modern wall art versions are decorative reproductions of those historic plate images, not antique impressions.

How do you display Audubon bird prints together?

They look best in sets, because the plates share a consistent style and pale background. Three or four smaller prints hung in a neat row work well above a bed, sideboard or along a hall, while a single large plate can carry a chimney breast on its own. Keep spacing tight and even, and mix bird types rather than repeating the same silhouette so each print still reads clearly.
