About This Art

Somewhere between Maira Kalman and loose painterly illustration, this Chicago cityscape refuses to behave. It pulls the eye straight down the avenue, past pink-stone facades and tall grey towers, to a line of yellow cabs nosing through traffic.

Put it up and the room gains a focal point that actually says something. Hallways feel longer. Living rooms feel a little more well-travelled. Home offices stop looking like home offices.

It hangs best at eye level on a calm wall — chalky off-white, soft greige, or warm clay all work. Give it a bit of breathing room so the avenue can do its job.

Pair with oak or walnut furniture, cream linen, a wool rug, and warm brass. Stoneware mugs and a few books finish the scene.

What to avoid: don't drown it in busy gallery clusters or competing cityscapes. It's the talker in the room. Printed on thick fine-art paper with a soft matte finish that holds the painterly brushwork beautifully.

Printing, Paper and Frames

Quality you can see (and feel)
Printed using museum-grade giclée technology on thick, matte art paper - no glare, just soft, natural colour that looks beautiful.

The kind of detail and depth that makes people lean in closer. Hand-framed in solid FSC-certified wood. Never cheap MDF or plastic-y veneers.

Won't fade, even in direct sunlight
Premium acrylic glaze with UV blocking keeps colours vibrant for 100+ years. Hang it anywhere - bedroom, hallway, that sunny spot above the sofa - without worry.

Unbox, hang, done
Arrives framed with fixtures already attached. Two minutes with a hammer and your wall goes from blank to "where did you get that?"

Made responsiblyFSC-certified wood and paper. Water-based, vegan inks. Crafted to order, so there's zero waste and zero guilt.

How do I frame an art print?

Good news—you don’t have to!

All of our prints are available professionally framed and ready to hang, so you can skip the trip to the framing shop and get straight to the fun part: styling your space. Here’s more info about our frames and service:

  • Your choice of timeless frames - natural wood, black, white, brown, silver and, of course, gold.
  • We use shatter-resistant acrylic glazing keeping delivery costs down and shielding your print from fading or sun damage—something cheaper glazes just don’t do.
  • Every frame is carefully sealed on the back using acid-free, archival tape —keeping dust and moisture out and your print beautifully preserved.
  • Hanging hardware already attached so just unbox, hang, and enjoy.

Prefer to frame it yourself? That’s totally fine too—we offer unframed prints in standard and A-sizes that fit most frames you can buy.

What makes Fab frames so good?

Not all frames are created equal. Many cheap frames are made with acidic materials or glazes that lack UV protection—meaning your beautiful print could fade, discolor, or deteriorate over time.

At Fab, we do things differently. Our frames are thoughtfully built to preserve and protect your artwork for the long haul. We use FSC-certified wood, 100% acid-free materials, and a UV-protective glaze to keep your print looking vibrant for decades.

That’s why our prints have an 80+ year archival lifespan—no fading, no yellowing, just art you’ll love for years to come.

If you're investing in art you love, it's worth framing it right.

How do I hang art prints?

It’s easier than you think—especially since our framed prints arrive ready to hang straight out of the box.

Here’s how to do it in a few simple steps:

  1. Pick a wall that needs a little love—above a sofa, bed, desk, or entryway works great.

  2. Make sure the space suits the size of your print (our size guide can help). Use painter’s tape or a pencil to mark where you want the top of the frame to sit.

  3. For single prints, aim for eye level (around 57–60 inches from the floor). Every Fab framed print comes with hanging hardware already attached.

Use a picture hook, nail, or adhesive wall strips, depending on your wall type and the weight of the frame. That’s it—your space just got a whole lot more beautiful.

Bonus tip: For a gallery wall, lay your prints on the floor first to plan your layout before committing to the wall

Does the print actually read as Chicago, or is it a generic city?

It reads as Chicago. The dark cross-braced tower on the left echoes the John Hancock, the line of yellow cabs and the mix of pink-stone older buildings with tall modern towers all feel specifically Chicago rather than a generic skyline.

Will the soft pinks and creams look washed out on a white wall?

They hold up well on warm whites, chalky off-whites and greige. On a very cool brilliant white the pinks can look a little muted, so a slightly warm wall — or an oak frame to add warmth — keeps the colour reading properly.

Is this better hung in portrait orientation only, or can it work landscape?

Portrait only. The composition pulls the eye down the avenue using a strong vertical perspective, with tall buildings either side framing the street. Rotating it would break the depth and lose the whole point of the image.
